Arranged 130 meters over the Lhasa valley, the Potala Palace climbs a further 170 meters and is the best amazing structure in all of Tibet. The development of the present castle started in 1645 amid the rule of the fifth Dalai Lama and by 1648 the Potrang Karpo, or White Palace, was finished. The Potrang Marpo, or Red Palace, was included somewhere around 1690 and 1694. The Potala Palace remained the home of the Dalai Lama until the fourteenth Dalai Lama fled to India, after the Chinese attack in 1959.
The Potala Palace is made of two principle parts, effectively recognized by their shade: the Red Palace and White Palace. The two are joined by a littler, yellow-painted structure that houses the holy standards clung the outer surface for the New Year celebrations. The rooms inside the castle are recognized by numbers and names.
The most imperative hallowed place in the Potala is the Saint's Chapel in the White Palace, which holds a venerated statue of Chenrezi, bodhisattva of empathy. Beneath the Saint's Chapel is the Dharma Cave, where King Songtsen Gampo mulled over the Buddhist scriptures after his transformation in the seventh century. These rooms are the most seasoned piece of the Potala Palace.
