Island peak, one of 18 designated 'trekking peaks' in the country, stands at 6,189 m. (20,305 ft). This trekking peak offer great potential for independent trekking and climbing groups by providing challenging but achievable alternative to full scale mountaineering expeditions with a chance to stand on top of a Himalayan peak. Trekking peaks do vary in terms of difficulty from non-technical plods to very technical climbs. Island peak is mostly a plod up but does require the use of ice axe and crampons. There is one part where the rope is needed. Island Peak is a spectacular extension to a fabulous adventure into the Everest region. Island Peak (Imja Tse in Nepali) is not among the Himalayan giants, but nevertheless provides an exhilarating mountaineering experience to the novice and expert alike.
No technical mountaineering experience is necessary to climb Island Peak, simply a high level of fitness the desire to push your limits. To reach Island Peak, we trek up the Dudh Kosi valley from Lukla, passing through Namche and Tengboche on our way to Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp. After being rested and feeling physically fit and acclimatized, we then head up the beautiful Imja Khola valley towards Island Peak.The group size can be from 2 to 12 people.
The best season for Island Peak climbing is from March to May and from September to November. The duration of the Island Peak trek can be lengthened or shortened according to your preference.
