Makalu Base Camp Trekking

High in the heart of the eastern Himalaya, seven valleys radiate from mount. Makalu, the world's fifth highest peak. These valleys, particularly the Barun valley, treasure some of the last remaining pristine forests and alpine meadows of Nepal. From the bottom of the Arun valley, at just 435 m above sea level, the Himalaya rise to the snow-capped tip of Makalu- 8.463 m within a 40 km distance.Within this wide range of altitudes and climates, the Makalu-Barun area contains some of the richest and most diverse pockets of plants and animals in Nepal, elsewhere lost to spreading human habitation.Nestled in the lower reaches of these valleys are communities of Rai, Sherpa, and Shingsawa (Bhotia) farmers.Though economically poor and isolated, they retain a rich cultural heritage. They hold the key to the preservation of the unique biological and cultural treasures of the Makalu Barun area.

The Makalu-Barun National Park and Conservation Area was established in 1992 as Nepal's eighth national park and the first to include an adjacent inhabited conservation area as a buffer. A new park management approach encourages local people to become actively involved in protecting the forests and natural resources upon which their lives depend, and in conserving their own rich cultural heritage. Traditional resource management systems, such as community controlled grazing and forest guardianship, are being strengthened and low level technologies introduced where appropriate. Working in collaboration with an American NGO, Woodlands Mountain Institute, Nepal is striving to improve local living standards through infrastructural, educational and income-generating activities. Covering 2.330 sq km, Makalu-Barun is a vital component of the greater Mount Everest ecosystem which includes Nepal's 1.148 sq km Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) National Park to the west and the 35.000 sq km Qomolungma Nature Preserve in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north.

The Makalu-Barun area is little known to most tourists due to its relative inaccessibility. But those few hundred trekkers and mountaineers who visit each year come away with an unforgettable experience. For the naturalist, there are spectacular displays of wildflowers and exotic plants. More than 3.000 species of flowering plants, with hundreds of orchid varieties, 48 primroses, and 25 of Nepal's 30 Rhododendrons splash the hillsides with color. The forests shelter abundant wildlife, including the endangered red panda and musk deer as well as the ghoral, Himalayan tahr  and leopard. Ornithologists have identified 400 bird species, at least 16 of which are extremely rare.

Kanchenjunga Trekking

Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest summit, rises dramatically above the rolling emerald countryside north of the hill station of Darjeeling, India. Although separated by a mere 46-miles (74-km) as the eagle flies, Kanchenjunga and Darjeeling are functionally in different worlds. The serene, forgiving lush lowlands contrast sharply with the majestic and forbidding icy summits. Stretching northward and embracing the southern arc of Kanchenjunga, the tea plantations near Darjeeling give way imperceptibly to the spice plantations of Nepal and Sikkim.

Kanchenjunga Trek is the trek to the Mt. Kanchenjunga. The trek provides the closest view of the world’s third highest mountain Mt. Kanchenjunga. (8586m.) along with other mountains. The trail of the trek follows pleasantly beautiful natural scenarios and panoramic view of high mountains. Kanchenjunga region is one of the popular remote treks in Nepal. The region has full of flora and fauna along with different wildlife and birds. Kanchenjunga Trek offers the exploration of Nepal’s eastern life to the Border of Eastern Nepal. As the trail ascends high mountains, the picturesque view of the grassy lands, rocky outgrowths and the sub-tropical forests make you feel charmed by the magic of nature. The superb scene of flowery forest of rhododendron, lilies, primula and orchids is unforgettable along with the views of green valleys and pasture lands and terraced fields.

Trekking in this region is also the opportunity to explore Nepal’s remote area and the life style of high mountain people. The cultural and religious practices of the remote area and their simple life style in this age of modern technology give a deep insight about their status. The economic activities and their daily routines are far more difficult than your imaginations. Hospitality of the local people and warm smile adds energy while trekking. The trekking continues to the wilderness for some days. The Trek to Kanchenjunga follows the route to the Onglakhing Glacier and Samity Lake. The ascend to the pass also provides superb scenery of Talung Glacier and the gigantic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Around view is of Kirat Chuli (7365m.), Talung (7349m.), Kabru (7338m.), Pyramid Peak (7123m.) and Rathong (6679m.) etc. is breath stopping and life memorable.

It is believed that this deep valley was named “Rolwaling “by the Sherpa community “which means the grave due to its inclined steep location lapped between the steep ice-giants of the Khumbu region. The Rolwaling trek provides an opportunity to get extraordinary glimpses of Mt. Gaurishankar Rolwaling Himal, Chobabhamre, Dorje Lakpa, Yalung RI and Pachharmo peak. The villages of Na (4,183m), Tso Rolpo lakes are the main attractions during this trekking trail journey.

This magnificent trek near the Tibetan border starts in Barabise, passes Tinsang la pass and descends Bigu Gomba which houses Buddhist nuns. The trail descendsBhotekosi River and turns into the Rolwaling valley, one of the most remote, mysterious, and fascinating places in the trek. There is a Great nunnery Gompa called Bigu Gompa. There are more than 300nuns. Two festivals are celebrated in a year in this place like manirimdu in Tengboche Gompa in Kumbu region. In Sherpa Language Biku means "Seed". There is Sherpa village. View of Gaurishankar (7,145m), Melungtse (7,181m) and other mountains, good landscapes; the village of Beding (3,690m) and monastery, the land is full of the tales of the yeti, the elusive snow man in the world and it is the place where some mountaineers arranged expedition to hunt yetis in the past. Beding is the last permanent settlement & Na Gaun which is only the summer settlement of the Sherpa community, is the highest altitude reached in the trek. We cross the Tashi (Tesi) Lapcha Pass (5755 m) and then descend to the Khumbu Valley by visiting Thame, Tenzin Norgay's hometown. Continuing along the Sherpa headquarters of Namche Bazar and then to Lukla, we fly to Kathmandu from Lukla.

Dhaulagiri Expedition

Dhaulagiri (8167 m.) is one of the most popular 8000m. peaks for climbing in Himalayas . The seventh highest mountain in the world, Dhaulagiri, lies on north – west of Pokhara culminating high point at its eastern end. Dhaulagiri is almost unique in the world in terms of its rise above local terrain, it rises 7000m. over Kaligandaki gorge the south east in about 30 km of aerial distance. In fact, Kali Gandaki is dramatic as two eight thousanders, Annapurna I & Dhaulagiri both stand near the river facing each other over a deep valley.

When Dhaulagiri was first discovered in 1808, it was thought to be the highest mountain in the world for the westerners. It remained as highest peak for 30 years before its place was taken by Kanchanjunga. Dhaulagiri means white mountain which justifies a magnificient peak rising as a giant shoulder of shining ice and snow. The South and West faces of Dhaulagiri both feature massive drops; each rises over 4000 meters from its base, and each has been the site of historical climbs. The peak was first conquered in 1960 by a Swiss / Austrian expedition team via North East Ridge which has been the normal route of ascent for most of the climbings to date. Dhaulagiri is buttresses by five ridges which offers the possibilities of different routes of ascent though six different routes have been established for climbing so far.

Around Dhaulagiri Trekking

The trail extends through one of Nepal’s wildest and most remote areas where the mountain scenery is simply breathtaking.  Mt.Dhaulagiri. Its 8167 meters 7th highest mountain in the world means "white mountain" though many mountains over the world. Which translate to White Mountain; this is without doubt the most astonishing one. This is a strenuous trek, through high alpine pastures, higher passes and serene and uninhabited valleys. Everyone is familiar with the name Dhaulagiri. Which is in the western part of Nepal, probably the best spot for remote and adventurous trekking in Nepal. The simple reason behind it is that it consists of more than fifteen 7000-meter magnificent peaks with land of dramatic contrast. The spectacular views of Dhaulagiri massif and glaciers tumbling down the icy face dominate the panorama.

Dhaulagiri trekking routes starts after an 8hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Beni, from Beni you head in a north-westerly direction through the villages of Babichour, Dorbang and Darapani to Muri, from where you head north still keeping to the banks of the Myagdi Khola. Muri is the last major settlement along this trail and is inhabited by people of the Magar tribe, of Mongoloid stock and descended from the early settlers of the Nepalese middle hills. From Muri, you head north along the Myagdi Khola through the villages of Baghara, Dobang and Chartare to Pakoban. Beyond Pakoban there are no permanent settlements. Still heading north you skirt the Chhanbardan Glacier, keeping on its left side, to reach the Dhaulagiri Base Camp from where magnificent mountain vistas are available. Head north-east from the Base Camp and climb the steep incline to the French Pass (5,360 meters), between Tukche Peak (6,920 meters) and Sita Chuchura (6,611meters). Heading east you descend a little and pass through a portion of the Hidden Valley and climb to Thapa Pass (5,250 meters), between Tukche Peak and Thapa Peak (6,012 meters) from where you begin your descent, heading south-east to Alubari. From Alubari, the trail further descends to the village of Marpha on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, and then heads north to Jomsom from where you fly back to Pokhara.

Gosaikunda Trekking

The Langtang valley is aptly called " the valley of glaciers". Here the mountain - scape is spectacular. On either side of valley, mountains rise, soaring into the sky. The valley offers pine forest, slow moving rivers and swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snow-capped peaks, grassy downs and meadows strewn with daisies and wild primulas. In the upper part of the valley there are snow bridges spanning angry torrents, high passes enveloped in mist, tiny lakes with icebergs floating on them and water of crystalline brightness. There are also high mountains of solid ice.

Our Gosaikunda pass trek can be denoted as, a sacred trek too, A lake believed to be the “Quantum of Solace” for the deceased ancestors if the ritual rites are performed by the surviving clan members. Gosaikunda trek pleasantly takes you through dense forest and traditional ethnic settlements cris crossing alpine yak pastures of Kyangin gompa and holy lakes of Gosaikunda. Reasonably you can religiously set your foot upon the adjoining gompas and monasteries of Lantang valley bathing in traditional glory is, intimidating and a wonderful experience of altitudinal peace.

Initially the Gosaikunda trek commences from Kathmandu and reaches as far as Syabrubesi and interesting traditional village on the banks of Bhote Kosi River and the starting point of our trek. The trek gains elevation slowly through the Langtang khola as we make way through the red rhododendrons oak and bamboo trees. Exploring Sherpa village along with Kyanjing gompa is tremendous as we get an insight into the spiritual lifestyle of dedicated Buddhist monks who have timelessly performed daily rituals in the monasteries on continuous basis. And an ascend to Tsherko Ri, stuns you with its magnificent view of Langtang Mountain ranges- Gangchenpo, Dorje Lakpa , here we get an opportunity to have a closer look into a traditional cheese factory known for its cheese production manually over the years. Next we head towards Gosaikunda lake said to be created by Lord Shiva with the stroke of his trident. Atop of Laurebinayak pass a historical view of Tibet can be gathered thoroughly. Rice terrace filled trek refreshes you with greenery along with number of Buddhist monasteries .

After a while we trail down back leaving behind Langtang valley and keep striding as far as Helambu Valley through Kutumsang  and Chisapani , Ngarkot ,Dhulikhel coming and enjoying spectacular views of the mountains ahead as usual. Our final trail leads us as far as Bhaktapur from where we drive back to Kathmandu.

Tamang Heritage Treks

Yala Adventure Treks offers you an authentic trekking experience along the Tamang Heritage Trail, a previously restricted area. This trail takes you across ancient villages and monasteries of rich architecture, where you will stop to take a dip in the age old natural springs. Starting from Pairo, this trek offers a spectacular view of the great Himalayas and the villages overlooked by them. The Tamang Heritage Trail lies close to the Tibetan border and was opened only in 2004. This trip offers meaningful exposure to outsiders who seek to understand the customs and traditions of the local people. Superb views of the towering mountains and majestic glaciers along with plenty of photographic opportunities are other highlights of this trip.

Tamang Heritage Trek is a recently opened area, west of the Langtang Valley that aims to bring tourism money to a poor region in exchange for offering tourists the chance to interact with these people of Tibetan origin. Trekkers lodge in local lodges or homes and experience at first hand the warmth and spirit of the Tamang culture; their Buddhist beliefs and their handicrafts. Your hosts, farmers supplying produce, cultural entertainers and handicraft sales all benefit with some money going into social funds. One distinct advantage is that Tamang heritage trek Nepal is still “off the beaten track” and so offers a glimpse of a region ‘set back in time’ which allows time for reflection and solitude.
