Bhairav Kunda - means a holy lake named after a destructive name of lord Shiva the "Bhairav" in Sanskrit. small village, passing through the dense forestations and meadows. Bhairav Kunda Trek is a spiritual trek lying towards the Northeast of the Kathmandu valley near the Tibetan border. Bhairav Kunda Trek can be categorized as pilgrimage trek as it take you to the scared pilgrimage site of Bhairav Kunda (lake) which lies at an altitude of 4,250m. This lake is visited by many Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims during a festival which is held every year during the full moon day in the month of Bhadra marked prime position in both Hindu and Buddhist religion.
A part from being a spiritual trek this trekking trip is also adventurous and exciting. Many other tourists also join along the trek to explore the typical Nepali culture and view some of the incredible Himalayan range. Bhairav Kunda trek offers the most magnificent view of various mountains including the chain of peak (Dorje Lakpa 6,966, Madiya 6,257M and Phurbi Ghhyachu 6,637m in Jugal Himal range and close up view of different Tibetan plateaus and Glaciers.
Bhairav Kunda trekking starts from Jalbire which is 81 kilometer north east to Kathmandu valley. From Jalbire we follow an old trade route between Nepal and Tibet towards the Tibetan Border. Our path passes thorough many small villages inhabited mainly by Newars, Gurungs, and Sherpa as we ascend up towards Forest camp 3,150m. From the base of Khani gaon following the thick alpine forest mainly comprising Rhododendron and oak inhibited with many endangered animals like red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear etc. and enjoying the beautiful sound of birds chirping throughout the journey we ascend up gradually towards Pati. Altitude Sickness is common symptoms seen among traveler who are traveling for the first time in such high altitude. Here we take a brief rest to overcome the sickness and acclimatize with the climate and geography.
In Patin you can see some spectacular view of several glorious Tibetan plateaus, and the peak is the Jugal Himal range. Our trail now climbs a steep hill making an exhausting journey up to the altitude of 4,250m. to reach Bhairav Kunda. Near the kunda you can see a temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the devotee visit this temple and pay their homage to the lord Shiva and bath in the Bhairav Kunda. After exploring its vicinity we trek down to Sherpa Gaon travel around the forest and observing the amazing view of Jugal Himal range.
