| 'Hope' Brings Happiness! A birth is always a reason to celebrate. Some however, are more special. We are delighted to share with you the news of birth of an infant in a family of rehabilitated hoolock gibbons in Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary. Fondly called Ouiji(meaning 'hope' in the local dialect), the infant was photographed with its family by our primatologist this week. Ouiji's family was among the five families of Eastern hoolock gibbons (Hoolock leuconedys) that we rescued from Dello village and released in Mehao WLS as part of the Mehao Gibbon Rescue Project. Many more families currently await rescue. Conversion of forests into farmlands had left these canopy-dwellers helplessly stranded in scattered trees in Dello. See the Project's video Birth of Ouiji has established that the released gibbon family is completely 'at home' in Mehao. News like this always makes our effort and our very existence, as an organisation, worthwhile. And as we celebrate this milestone, efforts are on to move more families to safety this year. Such endeavours would never be possible without the help and support of well-wishers like you. Thank you.
